    Default custom oval hole

It's been a while since I posted any pictures and since this one is somewhat unusual (for me) here goes. This was a custom order; wide curly maple dyed red (a la F4), blonde top, Gibson style rosette, pick guard, block pearl inlays, oil varnish, Rubner tuners. It made it safely to it's new owner today.

It was a pleasure working with John and I am thrilled with this instrument. I'll attempt to post a video of it here. Here goes....

Thanks for posting a video, Rbaer… it’s a beautiful mandolin for sure, but a lot of us are more interested in what it sounds like- much appreciated.

Your playing is lovely- I can see why you wanted an oval hole, it suits your music perfectly

John, I think you nailed the sound- very impressive. The notes are crisp and clear, and the bass response is deep and rich, but there’s no tubbiness- every note is well-defined. Great sustain and “ring”.

I suspect it’s hard to put down?

Love the double rosette… just beautiful.

Yes, hard to put down, indeed! This is my first oval hole mandolin. It's funny when you pick up an instrument and certain tunes or styles just feel right.

Congratulations John and Rbaer! It's as classy as John does. I hope it provides decades of service and inspiration.
