Default Is this damage serious or cosmetic?

It's on the back edge of a bass guitar. Is it serious, or just ugly to look at?

    Not enough info.
I can't tell from the picture where the damage is, what kind of construction is involved, how big the damaged area is etc., so I can't tell if it is serious or strictly cosmetic.

Thanks, John. Once I had posted I realized I was asking for the impossible. I should know better.

If it's a solid body electric bass, it's cosmetic unless it's by the neck or an output jack.

    It's an acoustic-electric.

That appears to be impact damage.
It wouldn't hurt to get it looked at to make sure the glue joint has not been compromised.

Thanks. I was trying to decide whether to buy it. It's not local, so I have decided to pass on this one, since an inspection before purchase isn't feasible.

Simon, do you mean the bass guitar that bears this damage? Here's a photo of the back, but it isn't a great photo. It's from the seller's listing.
