Question Trying to identify an old pick

    Hello

I recently ended a multi-year hiatus from playing. Fortunately my relationship with the mandolin has been restored and the calluses are even finally returning! After a few weeks, I can say only one pick feels "right" from my decades old grab bag of hundreds and I dread the day I misplace it.

I'd love anyone's help in ID'ing this pick. Hopefully it's still being manufactured and I can order more. I think it was circa 2012-2014.

It's probably a long shot, but hopefully someone can help. Cheers!

Maybe a Dunlop Jazztone 207? I have a 208 that looks about the same texture with the print worn off.

Not that I have a clue =other than looking somewhat like the highly rounded Dawg pick= but there seem to be some characteristics that might trigger others' attention:

    - The three "points" each seem to have a different radius, or degree of pointedness. True?
    - The sharpest point seems to be on a thinned-down end of the pick, compared to the others. Yes?
    - There's a barely visible, mostly worn-off, circle that could be the remnants of an old logo. (I doubt that the adjacent quarter could have pressed itself into the pick so neatly!)

Or... My observations are just artifacts of the photos' angles & lightings.

2012-2014 old? The shape and and remnants of a circle suggest a Dunlop “Primetonel” to me.

Your pick does look kind look of like a Dunlop Primetone Semi-Round, but Dunlop does not make a Primetone Semi-Round Smooth in black, in several thicknesses, today. I do not know if they did in the past.

I wonder if they are similar to European-made Gypsy Jazz guitar picks I've seen.

The shape and remnants of a circular logo looks like a Primetone to me. Probably one of the smooth dark brown ones.

Thanks guys!!! I'm pretty sure it is a primetone smooth -- not sure if 1.3 or 1.5 -- with the logo rubbed off. In the right light, I can see a circle matching the same size where the print used to be. I'll order a 3 pack but I feel pretty confident. Ya'll rock.

EDIT: If these aren't right, this comment:

ended up leading me to wegen's M100 pick as well that I think might be a contender!

The Wegens are exactly the same size and shape as the Primetones. The difference is in the bevel - they come in either left or right handed.

Most shows I play, there's a Primetone in my hand and a Wegen in my pocket or vice-versa. You can't go wrong with that. Add in a Golden Gate or Proplec faux tortoise and you have my top three choices.

Well, that's very useful knowledge indeed. It's hard to capture well on camera, but this pick 100% has a direction to the bevel. Maybe it is a Wegen after all!

Question Re: Trying to identify an old pick

Maybe Dawg 2.0 .. the 1.0 & Golden gate are equally shaped on all 3 sides with equal rounded 'points' .

2nd version has 2 slightly longer sides than the 3rd, still quite rounded..

The Primetones also have a slight bevel but I’ve never seen a left handed one for sale. The white Wegens also have a slight texrure to them. I’ve never come across a black one.

I will guess Dunlop Primetone Semi-Round.
    Looks like it.
Shape and bevel is right, and the circle for the logo makes sense.

Isn't a left handed pick a right handed one, if you switch your upstrokes and downstrokes?

I know they do them, I just don’t own one and I’ve never seen one. Personally, it wouldn’t bother me whether they were black or white.

As for the up/down strokes, it depends whether you’re using left or right handed strings.
