Thread: The ol’ tenor banjo with an Archie Fisher classic “Mount and Go”

Default The ol’ tenor banjo with an Archie Fisher classic “Mount and Go”

I live in two different locations a thousand miles apart, so I keep a few instruments at each end to minimize travel with them. That brought me yesterday to getting out my first tenor banjo, a vintage Serenader that I honest-to-god bought at Radio Shack (small town thing). The strings are like five years old, no spares, I only have a guitar capo here, and all my mic’s are at the other end of the line, so I just worked with what I have, which is rather freeing. The trouble with recording a banjo and vocal live from iPad built-in recording is that banjos are louder than vocals and there’s no way to mix. This is the quietest banjo I have -ever- heard and yet….What it is is what it is. As I said, freeing.

There’s not very many songs Archie Fisher plays that I wouldn’t like to learn. Braid Scots an a’. Took me the past year trying to make this work for me, but this is a first take.
