Thread: Gibson A-40 serial number location?

    My 1956 A-40 has the serial written in pencil on the orange label affixed to the inside back, as seen through the treble f-hole. My mandolin also has the serial # stamped on the back of the peghead, near the top. Not sure if all A-40 mandolins had this second location.

    I wasn't aware Gibson stamped any headstocks before 1961.

    My brother has a 1953/54 Gibson guitar with the serial number stamped on the end of the peghead, I also owned a 1948 A-50 that had the serial no. in the same place....Willie
