I didn't realize Billy was playing the mandolin here! It sounds great. No surprise, of course, he is a machine.

Anybody see what mandolin Billy is playing in this vid? I couldn't make out the headstock. Looked sort of like the scroll on the peghead was broken off. Nice Carlton style case on the floor between them. Great video, thanks for sharing!

Someone commented on Billy's Instagram that he's playing Ronnie's Gil.

I thought that looked like it may have been Ronnie's Gil.

Thanks for that info. It sure does sound great (as does Del's Martin)! I wonder if we might get a duet album out of this...

Ronnie's red X-Braced Gil has a tone to die for. People will often say when someone's instrument is complimented that it is all due to the player's hand, so it is nice to hear that same amazing tone being produced from it by someone else than Ronnie. Dawg gave Ronnie that Gil, and I have always thought that Ronnie's playing (and the tone) that he pulled from it on Steve Earle's "The Mountain" project really raised the bar sonically.

I didn't even realize that Billy played the mandolin! I have to confess that I haven't really gotten into his stuff all that much, but this is one of my favorite songs and he really has a nice touch on the mando
