Default BB King with Guitar-Mando Doubleneck

I would like to hear BB King on the mandolin. Saw this on FB.

"It was built by Lyn Vernon and Sid Manker in Memphis in the 50's and sold to BB King. ... Steve Vernon, is the son of Lyn Vernon, and still has the original plans. He thinks the name is "ManVer". He doesn't have any more info on how it was tuned, where it is today, etc." It appeared on a UK import record cover.

Not sure the other neck is a mandolin; it appears to have five doubled courses of strings. Wonder how it was tuned?

There were double-neck instruments where the shorter neck was an "octave guitar," as in this Fretboard Journal article.

Whoa! And a 10-string, at that! Could the bottom course be a C string?

    No doubt a Bb string.

Well ... maybe it's a guitar-charango. Or it could be using the Fender 5-string model, with an added mandola-styled C string.

Not finding much via google. This site plays clips from the album, BUT (note the big "but") the source may not be the album. It seems to draw from existing clips that match song titles. One was from someone covering the song, one song popped up in two places, and some songs aren't available. I skimmed through what they had and didn't hear anything with a double string sound. Someone with more patience could take a spin through and see what he or she may hear.

This site provides a photo of the back cover, replete with all sorts of information - but nothing about the front cover photo. Well ... except the identity of the other person, the photographer, and the location and owner of the photograph. Perhaps some intrepid and glib member can do some sleuthing and find someone at that archive who may have more information. Good luck with that!

I think he's just posing with it. It is attention-grabbing.
