Just delivered this custommade mandolin to the new owner. Since eight years I totaly stoped using tropical woods and nowadays I build with all Swiss woods. This special mandolin though have top and back made of old stock wood from the closed down Swedish Levin factory that closed down 1978. This woods are stored from about 1940 so it is quiet enough dry....I finished it of with steamed swiss plumwood for the fret board and bridge. Neck and sides swiss maple. Adjustable neck angle, all glued up with hot hide glue and hand brushed on spirit varnish.

Thank you for posting, Tyko! That is a very beautiful piece of work, and it's very good to hear you're using mostly local woods. The wood and finish look very fine, and I especially like your designs for tailpiece and bridge. Last fret is 24? Neck width a little over 30 mm?

I sincerely hope the new owner will post a sound clip!

Thanks for your comments! The customer like to have a slightly fatter and wider neck so the widht at the nut is 33 mm on this one. Yes, 24 frets and 350 mm scale length. To use just local woods was one of my absolutely best decisions since I started full time building 12 years ago.

Good looking mandolin Tyko, what type of tuners are those? I have never seen anything like them.

That is Goto Stealth tuners with about half the weight as normal tuners. Makes a huge difference in balance for the instrument.
