Thread: Four string octave/baritone mandolin

    Default Four string octave/baritone mandolin

Thinking seriously about a four string octave or a bari. Electric. Should be perfect through my old-school 15 watt tube amp for blues. BUT I read that the shorter scale, 19”, axes pose a problem in regards to staying in tune.

    True?

    Thanks

I’m sure it’s a function of string gauges and tuning choice. Have no idea what the right ones would be.

52/38/26/14 should work for GDAE tuning at 19".

52/38/26/14/11 on a 5. Flats. That is actually what I am getting ready to pull the trigger on. The bottom 3 would be wound.
