    Default Identification help please

    Hi all,
I am having a hard time identifying this mandolin, which belonged to my great-grandfather. There is no serial number anywhere that I have been able to find, and there isn't a manufacturer's name anywhere either. I know he purchased it second-hand, and the store's label is on the back. It looks like it was repaired, before he purchased it. Some of the hardware is clearly newer than the rest, and there are several cracks.
I plan to keep it, no matter what.
    Thanks everyone!
    Be well.

The tailpiece on the mandolin is not original- it is American made and is probably older than the mandolin which my guess would be 1970/80s and made in the Far East. The debate would be over whether it was from Japan, South Korea or possibly China but that would probably mean it being newer than I suspect. The tailpiece is a type that was last used on a large scale by Harmony in the 1970s and Kay in the 1960s.

I have seen plenty of these sold for rock bottom prices on eBay over the years. I agree built in the Far East most likely China,Taiwan, or possibly Korea. Maybe as far back as the 1970s or 80s. I am guessing steam arched plywood. Not a fine instrument. Put new strings on it and play it and think of your great grand dad.

Thank you for the input. He passed away in 1980, it's very possible he bought the instrument in the 70's. Incidentally, I was able to find some information on the music store. Shimele Blank owned a music store on E. 2nd st and Ave B in New York City, his sons took over after his passing. I found the reference in a book by Henry Sapoznik called "Klezmer!: Jewish Music from Old World to Our World". I believe my great-grandfather lived nearby.
I plan to have it restored as best as possible, and try playing it.

Just a warning: the cost of restoration will likely exceed the market value of the mandolin.

Consider it an investment in family history -- priceless, really.
