Default Old Time Mandolin Workshop with Caleb Klauder

I have taken all the workshops offered by this Fiddler's organization (not all for mandolin) but they have a nice lineup and you donate what you can—it all goes to the player.

I love Caleb's playing and Foghorn String Band, so I signed up right away.

I did email the organizer about posting this in the workshop page but I don't see that she did that yet.

Here's the link on the site. Old Time Mandolin with Caleb Klauder: Fiddle tunes, Solos & Beyond the Chop

    DATE: March 21, 2021
    TIME: 3:00 - 4:30pm (pacific)

I figure that a few of you folks would be interested. They usually record and send you the link afterward. And the teachers sometime provide handouts, etc. beforehand. Marla Fibish did an Irish mandolin workshop for them and it was wonderful.

You register with Eventbrite and the org provides the link on Eventbrite site a day or so before the date of the workshop.

Looking forward to this, but I can't make it Sunday, I hope they record it and I can watch after the workshop. I really enjoy Caleb's playing and all his various projects.

I'm registered, but the workshop will be late on a school night for me (Central European Time), so I'm also hoping for a recording. His rhythmic sense is just so unique, what a great chance to experience it.

I have attended all the offered workshops and they’ve recorded all of them and made them available for registrants. So you should register and send in a tip jar contribution and they will probably send the links.

I really enjoyed Caleb’s classes on rhythm for old time mandolin. He
did not use any written music/tab for tunes—it was great to be able to video him for later use.

Thanks for the tip! I registered. Back when I had more time before the school year started I took a bunch of private lessons with him, which were *very* helpful. Recommended if you are looking to take your old time mandolin playing up a notch.

That workshop sounds great, but it looks like it is all filled up. Bummer.

Yes, it's sold out. I wonder if there's any way to get a recording after the fact?

Unfortunately, people register and then don't show up. Their Zoom account maximum is 100 and I saw under 70 people actually participating. Too bad. I missed registering in time for another one and contacted the organizers and they sent me the link at the last minute when it looked like it was not to be filled. They really should have a waiting list. Contact them at https://www.fiddlers.org/

I thought that a recording was being made and would be available to attendees. But I can't find if it was. When we got to the tunes at the end of the session I was kind of saturated and would really like to look and listen again to what he was doing. Anybody know if there is indeed a recording somewhere?

I suspect they will inform us as to the availability. Their communication to attendees has been very good.

Jim: I appreciate you notifying us about this workshop. I got a lot out of it. Caleb is one of my mandolin heroes. It was strange to see him without his signature cowboy hat.

I "went" and really enjoyed it. And -- ha ha! -- I forgot I found out about it in the first place thanks to you, Jim Garber. I thought I saw you on the attendee list, as mentioned elsewhere. Doak! Hope to attend more like this in the further. It was super informative. This is the second presentation I've heard from Caleb, and both times I have been quite impressed by both his clear grasp of what he's doing and ability to relate it in and easy-to-understand way.

Nice to see you Mike and other Cafe folk. I even wore my Mandolin Cafe red hat in case no recognized me by my demented Jethro chord.

Yes, an excellent workshop but definitely not for beginners. I am sure if there were beginners their heads would have been swimming.

Add me to the chorus of thanking Jim for filling us in on what was a great workshop. Can’t get enough of Caleb’s playing and his various groups. And to boot a very relaxed and clear teaching style. Adam
