Looks like this thread is having a milestone of its own. It's about to go over 1000 views. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I believe and hope that at least plenty of people are enjoying the respite this provides from weightier discussions.

Well, here it is - Post #13,000! So that's 1000 posts in about exactly 5 months. Doing the math ... 200 a month ... 6-7 a day on average ... Doesn't sound like much, but it adds up. More than I thought I'd be doing. Hope some of them have been worthy of notice.

Might be time to do more practicing and recording, though. As much as I enjoy talking about music, and stuff, playing it is better.

Every 3000, so I did it at 12,000. (Multiples of 3000 for easy remembering.) I'm good for a while.

Congrats on the milestone, JB. As you can see I think I may actually be the official MandolinCafe lurker averaging 11 posts per year. I think in a few week I may get to post 210.

Oh, no, sir. You are WAY too busy for that distinction. Go to the bottom of the page, click on "Member List." Then click on "Posts" once, twice. There are literally tens of thousands of members who have never posted. And I mean, 28476 of the current total of 53475 (at this time.)

I wonder how many you will have by Late Night Trashy Mandolin Music Day (Aug 5).

I didn't know that was a thing. Unless I make a change in my lifestyle, continuing at my current rate I'd estimate somewhere around 13,333. That'd be kind of cute.

However, that's also National IPA Day and National Oyster Day, so my attention will probably be diverted elsewhere.

But this isn't supposed to be all about me. This thread is here to give anyone who wants to take a break from the usual serious discussions hereabout and announce some random, possibly dubious achievement. And do I ever miss the annual Dubious Achievement Awards published by Esquire magazine. They found some doozies!

More about Late Night Trashy Mandolin Music Day... I view it as something like Festivus, for the Mandolin world!

Aha! I see. THAT Late Night Trashy Mandolin Music Day ... or Night ... Well, that coordinates well with National IPA Day.

I think Late Night Trashy Mandolin Day/Night, IPA and oysters all go together pretty well in a somewhat strange way. I'd sit and listen to a string band, drink IPA and eat oysters that day with very little if any arm twisting

Alternatively, everyone could sit around swapping off between playing their mandolins together (in a trashy manner ), drinking IPA, and eating oysters. That would be another fine choice, IMHO.

Absotively posilutely! Sounds like a fine way to celebrate, or just pass a few hours. In Nah Hampshah, anyway. In Kansas, in those times, the oysters would most likely have been either not very fresh, or the prairie type. One would do well to avoid both.

I stumbled onto that thread last year and almost snarfed my drink!! Other than the blues, my favorite mandolin music is definitely late night trashy mandolin music. You are what you play?

True enough. Though the most deleterious oysters I ever had were in Florida, Sanibel Island to be exact. I will spare you the details
Happily, this did not occur on Late Night Trashy Mandolin Day/Night.

Used to be a place here, had real cheap oysters - I forget, but they were really like $3/dozen. For Happy Hour they were a dollar off. So with a $2 beer - jeez, it might have been $1 - I mean, sure, they were pretty small, but not bad, not bad at all. A fiver would get you a dozen oysters, a beer, and enough for a tip. I miss that place.
