My BG mando instructor recently upgraded from a gibson A9 to a collings MT. He plays a very traditional "monroe-ish" style of bg in several St. Louis bands.

Well, looks like we have plenty of "I'm not Bill Monroe" people here, so I can finally let the truth out..

    I am Bill Monroe.

(the egotistical womanizer part, not the mandolin player part)

My Collings has a full chunky sound on the lower strings,
especially on two and three note chords. It also seems
to have a very piercing treble. Could be my recording equipment, or my somewhat neurotic and aggressive
tremelo technique. Not quite the BG sound, perhaps, but I like it.
