Default Steve Earle on the Outlaw Country Cruise

It's being alleged that on last year's Outlaw Country Cruise, Steve Earle was playing a green mandolin similar in appearance to a Rickenbacker guitar.

The only such instrument I know about is the Tony Revell electric belonging to Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. But hey, it could be that since Petty's death the Heartbreakers are unloading some of the gear they'll no longer need.

Or, of course, someone else could have built a similar instrument for Steve.

    Anyone have more info?

(No, of course it isn't an actual Rickenbacker: Rickenbacker mandolins exist but they don't look like the guitars.)

I can assure you Steve isn't playing that green Jerman, because I still have it! I would gladly sell it to Steve, of course.

Yes, he's playing a Daniel Gilchrist electric in the NPR photo. Steve is quite the collector and has gone through a lot of different guitars and mandolins in his career (check out his YouTube series where he discusses his collection). If he bought or borrowed Mike Campbell's Revell, that would be of interest.

Steve got a greenburst 8-string Daniel Gilchrist in 2015. A year later he got a D. Gilchrist 8-string with wenge top.

Oho, if he has a green D. Gilchrist then perhaps that's the one.

Did he get the green one from Carter's or just the wenge one?

There's something about those two words that don't seem right together. No... I'm not talking about "green" and "mandolin". I'm talking about "outlaw" and "cruise".

Perhaps the port duties are paid in counterfeit bills?
