You can plug them with the handles of poly brushes and do your own thing. I suspect you are thinking of a wild-thing? Don`t forget the bridge.
Good point. I was thinking an octave 5 string but the scale seems a little too short.
You can plug the holes with dowels and sandwich a piece of veneer on the top and back. You might have to thin it a bit but it could be done. We seem to have a few Cafe members posting about these. 4 string bridges/tailpieces and pickups are available. I built a Stewmac mini Strat 30 years ago or so.

I did a bit more snooping around on the web to answer my own dumb question. Yes of course they are imported. No there are no options. The great thing about kits is the big impact they have had on the instrument building community. Now any gentleman who can afford a kit can be a builder.
Those little kits look cool! I've been curious about making a little electric mando.
It's been decades since I was watching Red, I don't know if he builds a mandolin, was just referencing the use of something that wasn't made for the purpose. That being said Red Green is a very entertaining show. I used to have to record it as it was on Sat. eve. and I was always gigging. Yes he is indeed an actor. Steve Smith plays Red. The show comes from Canada.
