Default Looking for a nice neck rest for re-strings...

I love the look and finish of the Northfield Instruments neck rest, but they've been sold out forever. Does anyone know of another nicely finished mandolin neck rest?

I logged in just now to tell you I got an email from Northfield that the neck rest is back in stock. But it looks like you got the same email.

All the socks I seem to get for Christmas, bunched up in a roll, when I clearly asked for mandolins 😂😂😂

I re-string my mando on a bath towel I have only used for re-stringing instruments on, I fold it in thirds the long way and then roll the end up just enough to act as a perfect neck rest. Doesn’t work quite as well for my octave mando or guitar, but I restring those less often.

I do love everything northfield does, so I will probably and up with one of those at some point anyway...

Like mandoid, I use my lap while re-stringing. The neck rests on my legs, and the body rests on an adjacent part of the couch that I'm sitting on, usually while watching a football game or a movie on the TV. This is the time-honored "couch potato position." Strictly old school!

P.S. My lap is very soft, particularly after Thanksgiving.

If on a table, I use a shoe. Most times, my lap.

My lap for re-stringing. A new, unused, unopened bag of kitty litter for any major work like installing frets. The bag conforms to the shape of the neck and holds it securely in place. Plus, I always have some on hand.
