    Default difference with ukulele

Just curious. If you had an instrument body. No strings on it. pin bridge and five tuners. How would you determine it it was intended to be a mandolin, mandola, 5 string bass or ukulele?

Scale length would greatly influence tuning options.

I'd also be curious about the spacing of the string slots at the nut, and if the instrument is acoustic (although pin bridge sounds acoustic).

Could be one of these timples from the Canary Islands? There are some larger instruments from South America that have 5 single strings.
