Looks like it might be a mandolin.

Whatever it is, I just love the strap button sticking out of the scroll.

The scroll might not be real. I've seen that mandolin and I can't figure out where.

Looks to be more like a mandola size/scale length than a mandolin (look at the position of the 12th fret in relation to the scroll).

    Different instrument.

I'd agree with mandola due to where the neck meets the body around the 16th fret & I believe it could to be faux scroll also. Thanks for sharing the picture.

I used to be a big Johnny Winter fan. I had his albums Johnny Winter and Second Winter, and I thought of him as an influence on my playing.

The redoubtable Mandocrucian did some research on his mandolin music a few years ago.

When Guy Clark lived in San Francisco, he and Minor Wilson repaired guitars. Guy helped Wilson build a solid body electric mandolin with a mandola fingerboard for Johnny Winter, a friend of both from their days in Houston. From “Without Getting Killed Or Caught, The Life and Music Of Guy Clark”. Great book— hopefully the film of the same name will be released next year.

Winter owned a Gibson EM-200, which went in one of the auctions of his collection.

Needless to say, not the pictured instrument.
