Default Compatibility of Grover A 309 Tuning Machines with Kentucky mando

Anyone ever replaced the tuners on a kentucky A-style instrument with these Grover 309s? The mando was purchased in 2012 for around $350, I believe. It's just a pretty standard, sunburst factory one, but I'm not sure the model. I'm just hoping not to have to mess with any drilling and/or hole plugging as I don't have any experience with anything like that on the headstock and don't want to screw it up. One of the tuner knobs broke and I'm not a great player, but I've just never been too happy with the pretty cheap tuner setup it came with, especially lately. It seems these are very good quality, great reviews, and above them, you're paying WAY more, which I don't think is appropriate for my skill level and unemployed status! Any advice is much appreciated.

They should work with no drilling. Grovers do have long base plates. I would measure the tuners on it and compare to the Grovers to make sure they fit on the peghead.

There are a few Kentucky models where Saga used a tuner set that didn't have standard spacing. You need to check the distance of the posts center to center and compare that to whatever tuners you are going to use.
