Default Kate Wolf Accompanied By Two Mandolins – 1985

Kate Wolf was another talent that was taken from us all too soon. She’s a staple in my music library and “Like A River” (the studio version) came up this morning. Thought I’d share a live version from 1985 for the folks not familiar with her or this particular clip. (The original studio version is pretty awesome, as well.)

I used to have the concert recorded, probably have it somewhere, but no way to play it. Randy Sabien and Nina Gerber, great addition to Kate. I think she was already diagnosed before she played that concert. Miss her music, a great loss to the world.

Is that a wide body A-50?

What a great surprise, never knew of Kate Wolf. Where's she been all my musical life?

    Give yourself to love,

-- Kate Wolf, 1942-1986; one of the great under-appreciated singers and songwriters of our age. Worth looking up and listening to, for sure.

Randy Sabien- the dude mandolin player- is an incredible jazz fiddle player from northern Wisconsin. I didn't even know that he played mandolin. He obviously does, and quite well.

I was lucky enough to meet Randy a few years ago in Willmar, Minnesota, in a music store. He had brought a couple of guitar playing students of his along to play a store concert. They gave a workshop before the concert which I attended.

Yes, he is an outstanding jazz violinist.

Randy sat in with our blues band around 20 years ago. It was a fun night and he does blues, as well as jazz, quite well.
