    Default new: Northfield neck rest!!!

I'm getting one of each. I have similar wooden neck rests for guitar but they are too large for mandolin and just too wide/deep for electrics. I love this type of neck rest. if you've never used one, they hold the instrument dead still, and so easy to get around and do whatever work you need to do. I've thought often to make one for mandolin as the guitar models are too high and wide, but never have got around to it, these look excellent, and a very fair cost as well.

    bravo yet again NF

And of course this is introduced right after I made an order with Northfield. Really like the concept. Lately just been hanging the headstock off the end of the kitchen table while changing strings. This is a lot better solution.

One I made years ago from a cheap neck rest (I think meant for use when receiving a massage), a piece of timber cut to size and some leather.

Why do you want the body raised up at an angle? Wouldnt you want something soft under body a little too in order to make the entire length flat but still have the headstock off the table?
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.

TP roll is what I use. That or a small pillow.

I think the point is supporting the neck while changing strings, but avoiding any possible scratching on the back (NO contact is a pretty good way to avoid scratches.) I have been using this and it does make string changing easier for me.

Same here. I've been using a bunny-ears rifle rest for mandolin work but the neck sinks down between the ears and doesn't allow full access to the frets for recrowning, for example. The Northfield rest should be better. I just ordered the mandolin-sized one.

Looks like the short one (for mandolin) is sold out.

And me like an idiot all these years just holding my instruments on my lap while changing strings....the money I could have spent buying one of these in every style and shape....

I use this as well, and it works fine. I thought it was a bit pricey, but it does have varying height.

Not as cool looking as the Northfield, though, by far.

I just bought one of the Music Nomads because of this thread Doug posted a link to. I tried it out last night for a string change and I was really happy with it. I usually just used a pillow which was fine but I like how this felt more stable. The Northfield did look cooler though.
