Thread: Oscar Schmidt Bowl Back Question

Default Oscar Schmidt Bowl Back Question

I’m fairly confident this is an unmarked Oscar Schmidt bowl back from the 20’s with lots of pearl and ebony features. What I would like to know is does anyone know what the “P” stamped on the headstock means?

The left machine strip is original, the right is old but a replacement. The clam folding tailpiece is old but not original either, but I like it. The finger board is very worn and was clearly played a lot. I love seeing worn fretboards.

I’m trying to figure out how to add pictures via my phone without success. Without picture, know that the top of the headstock near the center of the book end has the letter “p” stamped on it. Anyone know what this means?
