Thanks for posting! I must admit I do like the look of these. Does anytime know if they'll be available without Northfield engraved on the cover?

Also it states the Northfield/Gilchrist tailpiece weighs 2.2oz. Does anyone know the weight of a James tailpiece? I tried to find the info myself but was unsuccessful...

Spotted the Ad. in the classifieds. I assume that it’ll be better than most but I don’t see any advantage over a James. Not sure about the current price of the James but, the last time I looked, they were less that the $200 the Northfield will cost you. Nice box though!

One of the advantages is that it fits the NF-F5S without re-drilling.

I ordered one. I'm not fond of the cast tailpiece on the MT or NF5S.

This is tempting. Will be interested to hear if there is a difference in sound.

I have sent an inquiry for plain cover without logo. I hope I can get any reply from them this week.

Thank you doc holiday and kykym for your replies. I emailed Northfield about a plain tailpiece without logo. Unfortunately at present they are only available with the logo, but this may change further down the line. Maybe if enough of us pester them they'll start making plain ones!

I like the design, very nice. If I were ordering a new high end mandolin, I'd consider this if it had the right logo.

I got a reply from them which was “we currently only have the one style with Logo available. We may have more options available in the future.”
    Already placed an order one.
I also installed their Nugget design tailpiece to my A style also. It has “Nugget” logo. I don’t mind about with logos anymore.

I just finished installing the NF/Gilchrist tailpiece on my NF5-S. The install was very easy, and the holes line up perfectly. The replacement screws allowed me to tighten everything down snugly. There are two extra posts towards the rear of the tailpiece that could be used for the E strings. I chose not to use them, but may try them out next time I re-string. I had to very slightly shift the bridge position to get the strings centered. No change needed on the bridge height. Can't really comment on any differences in sound, but if anything, I notice a slightly "dryer", tight sound. But this could be the new strings. Love the hinged door and the dampening screw lets you dial in how much damping you want. This thing is really well made IMO.
