That one is legit. It was for sale on Reverb for sure and I think it was listed here as well. You might notice he also has over a 1000 transactions all with positive reviews.

A lot of sellers claim they do better with a no reserve listing. Looks nice!

Yeah, pretty sure I also saw it on Reverb at one point. While the flame is nice, it's what I would consider typical for a blonde MF/MT style. Comparing it to mine, don't think it's any better. But that's probably also my bias. I do think the finishing process Collings uses brings out the best in the maple.

And yes, I've often had better luck with no reserve listings (in my case not musical instruments, but sports cards).

If this model (with cheaper tuners) costs $5,500 new what is this worth? Half of that?

I don’t know why one would subtract the tuners from the valuation or choose half as the depreciation. I’d think it’s worth 2/3 to 7/10 of its current replacement value, like most desirable but available mandolins.

I agree! The seller stated (in the auction description) that this has "high end Waverly tuners (the best you can buy!)" and "The tuning machines alone on this mandolin are worth over $500. This model (with cheaper tuners) costs $5,500 new".

I would expect this mandolin to be valued around ~$4K if it were listed in the classifieds.

I agree. The tuners alone are a $400-500 upgrade. $4000 would be a good price.

I traded my blonde Collings MF with white binding earlier this year. I had valued it $3500 to $4000 as did the other parties' instrument. I think you're valuation is good. It will be interesting to see where it ends up.

It doesn't help that the DOW just lost 1000 points in two days and July, August and September are the worst months to sell on ebay. I can't imagine it will sell for $2,025.00 (the current bid with 2 days left on the auction) but it might be a bargain.

With 37 bids already and over 2 days left to go, I’d expect a lot more movement before the auction closes.

An auction on this mandolin is a gamble. You never know. I just sold an item at no reserve auction there that went for 3x my estimate. I've have a "give it away" at auction also.

To me the pictures the seller is using could limit the enthusiasm on this auction a tad. IMO it lacks appeal against that gravel ground backdrop.

It seems odd to me that this exact same mandolin was "sold" last month for $4900.

If the sale fell through, that might explain it. But it does raise a bit of a red flag IMO.

It looks like it was listed for $4900, and then resisted as ‘ no reserve’. Interesting to watch.

Your right again. I consider $975 a lot of movement, but at $3700 that's a real good deal. I haven't seen any priced that low.
