They remind me of the Flying Eagle inlays of a banjo. I know they're not!
Flying Owl maybe?
If you bought it used, maybe a previous owner had it done. It looks like high quality work.
Hey Skip. I was told a collector from the UK had it built this way from Gibson.?. I've never seen "custom" inlay work from the Gibson factory though. I'll have it in hand this week!!
Is this the same mandolin?

Nope. That has the standard 70's style inlays.
But thanks!!
It should arrive tomorrow, so I'll post more on it.
An '02 Roberts is probably a killer mandolin,,,I was wondering about the inlay myself, but I know that Roberts did some custom orders in the early 2000's...
Well the inlays turned out to be stickers!!
While I am a bit perturbed by that, this mandolin is a monster & I got a super deal on it. So all-in-all, I'm tickled with it.
It's as unplayed as a brand new one. The tone right out of the gate stunned me! I'm really looking forward to playing this for a long, long while!
Glad it's a good one! Now the question is are the stickers staying or going?
Old Hometown, Cabin Fever String Band
Jim, they were peeled off immediately! I don't like plastic on an instrument (I'll change the truss rod cover) let alone stickers!! They actually did look pretty good! Definitely passable at five feet, but I just couldn't leave them on.
