Thread: Music and Nature Videos - Sobell Banjo Lute and Flute

Default Music and Nature Videos - Sobell Banjo Lute and Flute

I have a mid-1980s Sobell 10-string cittern that I swap back and forth from 10-string fifth's tuning, to five strings (in 5-string banjo orientation). So, going from a mando instrument to a banjola (wooden-top banjo, banjo lute, whatever term you like), by merely changing the type of strings; no alteration to the nut or saddle.

For these nature/music videos, I tuned the Sobell to 5-string banjo double-C tuning: gCGCD.

Jessica Peterson is playing wooden flutes. She also shot the nature scenes and set them to the music. The recording of the Sobell is unprocessed. There are a couple of other videos on the channel, featuring cello banjo and flute.

I especially enjoy the sound of the second video, "Consonance" - nice!

Very effective indeed. I've never come across someone using a Sobell quite like this. A banjo lute, indeed! Whatever next!

Seriously, I'm impressed at your approach. I must check out what you are doing.

This is my first musical posting, on Mandolin Cafe, and I'm mighty pleased with such a warm and open-minded response.

In answer to tmsweeney, I'm playing fingerstyle. And, thanks for your comment.

Thanks to Dagger Gordon for the supportive enthusiasm.
