    Default Dampit tube humidifier

Hi. If any of you guys or gals with New Mandolins are using the dampit tube humidifiers take that round neopreme gasket off. It will damage the finish. And there is no way of repairing the area without compromising the top ( as Gibson told me)

This article from Frank Ford's www.frets.com details problems when vinyl hits lacquer. Unfortunately we rarely know what's actually in the things we buy. I'm pretty sure there are a whole lot of things that will react adversely when it comes into contact with a finish not just vinyl or neoprene. When in doubt keep it away. Sorry you have to go through that.

Ya it kind of sucks. Gibson has the mandolin right now , its on its way back soon . Mr Harvey accessed it . Im not sure if that mark will spread or fade in time .

A 10.00 item can ruin a 7k plus instrument . Its pretty discouraging

I don't think it is ruined, just a character mark, mine has lots of them.

Gibsons built over the last 30 years or so are notorious for having lacquer that is easily damaged by things that don't necessarily hurt nitro lacquered instruments built by other companies.
