Breedlove American 00

I found out that a local pawn shop has a Breedlove American 00 for sale. It has an oval hole and has been there for 8 months. I'm thinking of going over there and playing it to see what it sounds like and how it plays.

Anybody know anything about these mandolins? What would be a good price for it? I play mostly old time, hymns, Celtic.

There's a nice looking American Breedlove on reverb for $799. I think they represent a good value at that price.

I have two American-made Breedloves. They both have impeccable workmanship and playability. When I got my Gibson F-5L, I never gave any consideration to giving up either Breedlove. They're that good. I have no experience with those made across the water.

If it’s been there for eight months, it probably has gone dormant, and its strings may be overripe, so you’ll be hearing it at its worst during first contact. You can’t do anything about the strings, but you probably should play it for at least ten minutes to see if it needs to wake up.

The Crossovers came out with laminate sides and back. I’ve played one and thought it was just fine, but not to the point that I wanted to spend $700 Cdn +tx on it. I’d grab it at under $200 US tho. In fact I thought about it when I saw that ad—and I just got a Collings! Deals are where you find them.

Intrinsic value is materials + craftsmanship level, not country of origin.

Well...did you buy it? I recently owned a Breedlove Legacy FF, 2013. Picked it up cheap locally. Basically brand new. It was very well built. Considering the, IMO, inflated prices of Eastmans and other imported instruments these days, I don’t think you could go wrong with an American made Breedlove for 700-1200 bucks.

I gave away this instrument to my father as a gift. He loves it.

I owned one of these. The US made 00 is a well made mandolin and for a great used price. They do not have a dovetail neck joint, but neither does a Taylor guitar. They range from $600-800, generally.

Well, I finally went down to the pawn shop to look at the Breedlove American oval-hole mandolin. I saw it through the door, but wasn't allowed inside as they checked my temperature 3x (with one of those forehead "thermometers)and I supposedly had a fever. I took my temp at home and I didn't have one. I guess it's not meant for me to try that mando, at least for now. Maybe later. Thanks for everyone's input.
