    Default Help with case color

What is your favorite case color? I am placing an order and can't decide. I want a light color for sun and heat. Thinking light grey, white or beige. Mint Green? Orange? Pink!?!? Help! Thoughts?

Are you really going to be storing it in the sun and heat? Unless you are, pick your favorite color and don't worry about it.

My guitar cases are light grey (painted a worn black case with leftover floor paint, wife hates it, "should be black") and some dark terracotta hue (because that was the color they were made in). Mando, third guitar and keyboard survive by gigbag in black and blue (literally, not as in "beaten up").

Anything goes. Does not have to match color of clothes, band logo or weather. I may consider how wife feels about it next time. Orange and purple perhaps less likely.

I like black, but I don’t let my cases/instruments do much sun bathing. Heat is unavoidable if you’re playing and traveling in the summer. I don’t think the color matters that much. Maybe hot pink or blaze orange so you can see someone in your periphery walking off with your favorite!

I drive a hatchback and have been astounded at how hot the outside of a case gets on a 20-minute drive in the back of my car. I live at high altitude and the sun is strong, but even so, it's surprising.

Although I hope it's not a problem, a distinctive case may deter a thief. You are more likely to notice someone making off with a mint green case than a standard-issue black one.

Mint green all the way, it's both light colored and not run of the mill.

I really like the wild colors my Pegasus cases, an F-style in Daffodil yellow and an A-style in Tangerine.

When in use they have a case-cover anyway so it doesn't really matter. I just like those colors.

When I was a kid my Dad had a mint green '57 Chevy.

Back in the last century, an old mate of mine ordered a black Calton but when it arrived his wife wouldn’t have it in the house as she thought it looke like a baby’s coffin. I got a ‘phone call asking if I would be prepared to do a straight swap for my rectangular “Ibanez” stock case. I still have the black Calton - great case. When I orderd another in 2008 for my Kimble, I let my wife pick the colour!

So it seems that WAF is significant towards the deciding, not only for me. Consider that if it is relevant to your situation. It makes life a lot easier ...

I'm a traditionalist. I got my Calton many years ago in black exterior/green interior because it seemed to fit the look of the instrument. It doesn't spend much time ever in the sun. With that said I did enjoy my red Eastman f style case that I had and if I had bought a Pegasus it would have been in red exterior/plaid interior. I'm no help in this discussion

Dirt. Scuffing, grunge. I suppose I would consider what the case is made of, and how it handles 'scuff' marks.

My Calton is bright lemon yellow (with racing green interior). Stands out in a crowd of black cases!

I picked a "cream" color for my Pegasus case order. I wanted something lighter in color not just for sun protection, which isn't much of an issue because I'm not likely to leave the case out in the hot sun for very long. It was more to make it stand out in a pile of black cases at a session or workshop. Maybe being more visible means someone won't trip on it when it's parked behind a chair or under a table. Anyway, I just like the color.

FWIW, my S.O.'s fiberglass fiddle case is a nice British Racing Green. I think that looks good as an instrument case too.

If I was ordering a new case where I got to pick the color, I would get purple (if that was an option since it is my favorite color,) or cream or white. I like green interiors, no mater what the exterior is.

Rather than color, I would be more concerned with things like sturdiness, storage, weight, etc. Having said that, I believe that if I had a purple case, I'd have to turn in my man card.

Not too dark so it won‘t heat up too much but first of all:
Any color you can spot on the back of someone running with your mandolin!

It's made by Hoffee, sold by Bluegrass Mandolins. They sell Hoffee and Calton cases, saw it last year here in the classifieds section.
This one has the Thinsulate™ lining, keeps the instrument cool even in hot summer. I'm very happy with it...

Strangley enough I base the colors on the mandolins origin or name. Area 51 and Sasquatch.
