Thread: Jack Charlton RIP.

    Default Jack Charlton RIP.

Jack Charlton helped England win the (soccer) World Cup in 1966. I remember my Dad telling me how important that was when I was seven years old.
He had a great sense of humour too.
    Really sad day.

No interest whatsoever in football (soccer) but in all the UK news reports there has been no mention of his 1976 conviction for fishing without a rod license. I remember that it was quite a big thing at the time as he was then making a living presenting fishing programmes on TV.

RIP Jack Charlton - he brought a lot of joy to Irish football supporters too, managing the national side from '86-'96.

Christy Moore celebrated Jack's World Cup victories with Ireland by turning the BBC Match of the Day theme tune into an Irish jig:

Actually that song was about the '88 Euro Cup, Jack's first notable outing with the Irish national team.
