    Default refinish top

Can anyone suggest a professional to refinish my phoenix mandolin top? Some one in the New England area?

    Max and Louri Girouard

They are good friends of Rolfe and super nice people to deal with.

Why do you want to refinish the top? It could affect the resale value.

I developed a bad habit of resting my finger on the top while playing to use the finger as a spacing control. After ten years, the finish is worn to the bare wood. If I keep up this habit, it will look like Willy Nelson's Trigger guitar. A pick guard may be another option. It is something I will have to think about. I am concerned that a pick guard will dull the sound. I will keep the names you gave me and giver them a call. Thank you for the info, this is very helpful

Pickguards are great and they've never dulled any of the 100's of mandolins I've owned! I have guards on all my personal instruments.

I don't know if it is too late to install a floating pick guard. I think a floating guard attaches to the fret board. Thank you for your reply

Rather then refinishing the entire top, Max and Laurie could touch up the worn area and blend it in. Like I said, they are great to deal with and very talented instrument makers.

    Good luck!

Just curious, did you get in touch with Max and Lauri? If so can they help?
