Default Fifths Tuning on Tenor Uke

    Hi,

Found quite a lot on this topic, but not the specific question I want to ask.

Looking to tune a tenor uke to fifths tuning using the Aquila 31U Concert set for CGDA, although I might take it down to B flat, etc as I’ve seen Cafe member Rob McKillop do on recent YouTube videos to great effect.

Basic question is whether using these strings might necessitate having to change the nut out or have it adjusted to accommodate this string set. The tenor currently is tuned as is common, high G tuning GCEA. String gauges never seem defined on uke string sets I see advertised.

    Know nothing about ukes!

    Regards,

Slightly widening the slot in the nut for the lowest (first) string worked for me on a tenor uke for tuning to CGDA.
Have gotten a lot of use from this set of files. You might find something similar closer to where you are.

Looks like a set of torch tip cleaning tools. Get it anywhere, and while they are slower, they work fine.

Thumbs up Re: Fifths Tuning on Tenor Uke

Dont be locked into the usual GDAE, CGDA. fwiw .. FCGD B F# C# G# etc.
    fingering same, names differing..

Uke necks & bridges are surface glued on , so won't like higher tensions..

    Jacob,

What string set have you found best for CGDA and do you know what gauges they are? I have seen Aquila 31U described as for Concert CGDA recommended, but that set dont say what gauges they are?

    Thanks.

That's the set I use. No gauges printed on packaging. So far, have had no issues with the tension load for CGDA on tenor ukes for the past dozen or so years. Have kept 2 sets on 8 string tenors. The difference between concert and tenor scale length is only 2 inches, 15 vs. 17. This set at CGDA on a tenor is the equivalent of tuning a whole step higher than on a concert. Tenor BbFCG would keep the tension the same as concert CGDA.
