    Hello!

Nashville session guitarist Tom Bukovac posted a video with Bryan Sutton from Blackbird Studio D where they were tracking for a country artist, and Bryan had what I think is a Weber Sage Octave Mandolin (click the picture above). It's a weird one, though, and I was wondering if anyone had a guess as to when it was made and if it was a special model.

Most of the Weber Sage Octave Mandolins I could find online have a vertical grain on the back of the body and black binding. Like this:

But I found one that has beautiful bookmatched horizontal grain and white binding. Like this:

Bryans looks to have the beautiful bookmatched horizontal grain, but with black binding. There's also a lighter colored stripe of wood on the back of the headstock and neck, which is shared with the horizontal grain white binding mandolin I found (2nd link).

I'm not sure it's as simple as a case of new vs old, because here's a 1991 Weber Sage with vertical grain, black binding, and no stripe on the back of the headstock:

If anyone has any ideas about what Bryan's Weber Sage may be, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

    Thanks

In the second one you posted, you are confusing figure with grain. The grain is still vertical.

And looks like a nice Ellis A model to the side.
