Thile just posted on FB. American Public Media will no longer be producing the show.
I'm sad.

Just ruined my day. The radio shows I enjoy are now reduced to "AMERICAN ROUTES" and "WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAIN STAGE".

Ugh... just saw the post from Thile on twitter and came here.... Very sad about this. Thile and Live from Here/Prairie Home Companion made me love music again after feeling burned out for while. Almost every artist I listen to now I can trace back to the show. I wouldn't play mandolin without the show, wouldn't have been going to bluegrass jams. I saw the show live four times and was hoping to see more. Well, I guess Chris's schedule just opened up - looking forward to seeing what he does next.

My musical tastes lean more towards traditional BG but that really is too bad. It wasn't on at a convenient time for me - but it was always a pleasant surprise when I caught it. Even saw it live (in Portland, OR) a few years ago.
I think lots of "live" events are going to struggle for awhile...

That just plain stinks.

Reason for cancellation?
While some of the music was not for me, all was stellar!
The show was the acoustic alternative music (for better expression) alternative for a classical music show.
Bummer. 'Always exceptional and inspiring....
Five years ago this month, I cornered Thile backstage at a show in Cincinnati and confirmed that he'd be taking over Prairie Home Companion. I wrote a short news story on my phone for Mandolin Cafe, and it turned out that may have been my most widely cited bit of journalism. It was picked up by outlets as far away as India, most of whom gave attribution, "...according to the Mandolin Cafe, a publication devoted to the mandolin."

I couldn't be more impressed by what Thile, the regular and guest musicians, and the production crew have accomplished before this damn pandemic ground things to a halt. For now.

Time moves on. I am sure something will come along that takes its place more or less.
The hard part is getting and keeping an audience, and Live from Here had a good audience, and that audience is still there and something will feed that audience, maybe not the exact same way, but there is a gap and it will be filled.
Aw mannnn.... such sad news. Will deeply miss it.
That is a total downer. The show was exceptional and I loved the fact that a show like that existed in our current culture. I thought Thile was always captivating and the content wonderful.
It doesn't matter . . . I'm going to WINFIELD!!!!!
Big time bummer
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.

I woke to the news this morning, totally depressing. I emigrated from the USA a decade ago, and Live From Here is one of the few US shows that I still listen to. That show turned me on to so much great music, starting with Thile himself, the Watkins via Nickel Creek, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O'Donovan...I could go on. Before the pandemic I had planned to see the show live at the Bluegrass Museum Hall of Fame in Kentucky this summer.
Not only that, through the show I found Peghead Nation and through them started making real progress on my own playing.
So...rats. I guess I'll raise a glass to the Live From Heroes tonight.
The pandemic claims another.
