Last year I acquired an 84' Kentucky octave mandolin and asked in the CBOM forum if anyone had heard of another. Apparently no one had. I recently discovered another. It was custom made for Dave Grisman by Sumi and is currently owned by Lowell Levinger. Videos of Lowell playing his as well as my son, Charlie ONeal playing mine can be heard on YouTube. An interesting aside is that after doing some research it appears that these instruments may be the first F style body octave mandolins ever made. Any more info on these or earlier F style octaves would be appreciated. Thanks.
