Celebrate the opening of Bishop Museum’s Kaula Piko: The Source of Strings, and explore the musical legacy of Hawai‘i through our immense and long-lasting contributions to the world of music. In the late-nineteenth century, Hawaiian musicians began a major movement that spread beyond their island home. Co-curated by the Museum’s DeSoto Brown and guest curator Kilin Reece of Kealakai for Pacific Strings (www.kcpstrings.com) this exhibit highlights the pioneering influence of these innovative musicians in both performance styles as well as the design and construction of instruments that continue to be of international significance today.
Co-curated by Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings founder and president Kilin Reece and Bishop Museum historian DeSoto Brown.
