    Default Well this isnít good..

While I was doing the annual string change (flatwound player) and deep cleaning of my mando I noticed two indentions in the top. Sure enough when looking at the stock bridge base it looks like the base is too thin and the posts are trying to poke through.

Too bad, Joey, that's a shame. Even though it can't be seen under the bridge, you know it is there. What can you do. . .these things happen. Don't let it get to you.

Bob, thanks for the kind words. Really appreciate that.

This does give me the excuse to have a full contact base bridge made by Cumberland Acoustics.
Just don’t feel safe using that stock bridge base now.

I would go the same route. I wouldn't put that one back on, and a full-contact Cumberland would be my first choice. Please let us know what you think of it.

Was that an aluminum cap on the original bridge?

It appears to be only cosmetic at this point, with the great benefit that it can only be seen with the bridge off. There are number of ways that bridge can be made safe...if you wanted to. However, if you've been wanting a full contact bridge, then now is as good a time as any.

It’s fossilized walrus ivory. It’s a saddle I had from another project that found its home on the Draleon.

I had the bridge-feet indentations on my F5. Got full-contact bridge. End of problem; and, helped my plains sing better.

I think John Reischman had the same thing with his Loar.

Nothing to lose sleep over, imho.
