    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pET3...ature=youtu.be

My family is getting into distance playing. Here’s another split screen video, this time with both my daughters, and me providing backup on my Northfield Octave Mando. Played in honor of World Fiddle Day. Yeah, I didn’t know about it either!
    Enjoy,
    Pete

Well done, very musical and you managed to have a very together feel that I find lacking in some of those distance videos

Thanks, man! I’m getting into the swing of them a bit now, and learning a few extra tricks with iMovie and YouTube too. Lining up the clips in the editor is tricky, but when I get them synched it feels like it’s all worthwhile, even though it takes hours to put a whole video together....gives me something to do in lockdown! I can’t imagine how long it took to put that Mike Marshall Mandolin Orchestra video together!

Thanks, Drew! How do you like your Northfield Flat Top Octave? I have a friend who has a lefty one..he loves it! I love my arch top too....I played a James Jones Octave for decades, and now hardly ever take it out of the case...

love it - that octave sounds great, too bad your kids are blowing you out of the water ( as it should be)

Very nice, Pete and family! I think I need to learn that tune. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks...they benefited from festivals every summer, jams and concerts other times and general immersion from an early age. I'm not complaining though...I've had my share of limelight and musical jollies, and I'm really happy they are willing to play with me! (and I get to choose the next tune...)I always say that each successive generation is blowing the last one out of the water.

Thanks, Hank...glad you enjoyed it. It's a little trickier to play on the mando as it lends itself to being played on a cross A tuned fiddle, but have at it!

Sounds great Pete! You Charlottesville folks sure do have some crazy talented kids up there.
Yup I will be stealing that tune.

I like it a lot! Before I bought it I played the archtop also and they were both really cool, but very different. Lots of pinky exercise on it!

Great video, Pete, and as Dang says, very together. Happy World Fiddle Day!

Pete, can you point me at a notated or tabbed or abc-ed copy of the version you are playing? Everything I have found by that name has been quite different. Fiddler's Companion (ibiblio) mentions a couple of versions using cross tuning but no notation. But if push comes to shove I guess I could use Transcribe or something to help me dig it out note by note from the video.

Well, Hank, we all learned it by ear, mainly going off a recorded version by Cleek Schrey and Stephanie Coleman which can be found on Spotify, if you go there.

There’s a version that’s somewhat similar to ours that was transcribed into standard notation by John Lamancusa which you can find at https://www.mne.psu.edu/lamancusa/tunes.html , but it’s not quite the same.

And then there’s a version in abc notation and standard notation at https://www.natunelist.net/speed-the-plough/ .. again, similar but not identical. That’s fiddle tunes for you...everyone plays them a little differently, and we just learn them by ear.

Maybe those two sources will get you close...hope so! Good luck, and thanks for your interest.

    Pete
