    Default action on electric mando

I recently purchased a used Mandocaster. The action is set higher than on my Bovier (about 1.75mm at 12th fret G string). Is there any reason to have a higher action on an electric or should I drop it down a bit?

Absent string buzz or masochism I'd say drop it down

I dropped it down about .5mm. No string buzzing. Was quick and easy once I spent 45 minutes trying to find a 1.5mm hex wrench in my toolbox!

If you can remove the neck (assuming a bolt on neck) you can also shim the neck pocket to bring the action down lower for regular fingering. I like to use business cards as shims. Good luck!!
