Default Cool Stuff to Watch When not Playing

Fortunately I'm an essential worker so I'm still going to work at the power plant.

But there's not a lot to do in my down time with no festivals, shows or jams. So I've been streaming shows on Netflix. Last night I watched "No Direction Home" by Martin Scorcese about Bob Dylan and "Echo in the Canyon" about the Laurel Canyon music scene with the Beach Boys, CSNY, Mamas and Papas, etc. which featured Jakob Dylan.

There are lots of other great docs ("The Other One" about Bob Weir, one about Greenwich Village, "Running Down a Dream" on Tom Petty, "20 Feet from Stardom") and lots more.

    What is everyone else watching?

"Standing in the Shadows of Motown" is great. Also "Pulse", a video of a live performance by Pink Floyd from 1994 is a stunning experience, unless that kind of music doesn't appeal to you. If it does, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's 87 minutes, and you can watch it on Youtube. I don't know if it's streaming anywhere else.

If you want to see it, I suggest you find a way to watch it on your TV screen, through headphones or good speakers. the light show/visual material/film clips are really good. I have the DVD, so I was able to really appreciate the bigger screen, etc. The DVD is two discs, and one is the entire Dark Side of the Moon album. I'm watching on YT right now, and that is the beginning part of the concert. It actually looks pretty good on my computer screen.

Of course there's The Last Waltz (The Band), and there's a really good Rolling Stones concert film by Martin Scorsese. It was recorded at the Beacon Theater in NYC, IIRC.

Monterey Pop is really good. Netflix and Amazon Prime have lots of concert videos available, I imagine all the streaming services do.

Seen some of those - just watched the DVD of "The Last Waltz" again recently. I'll check out the other suggestions, thanks!

I have the audio out from my TV optically coupled to my old stereo system on the "VCR" input. That way no matter what the audio/video source to the TV (DVD, cable, antenna, VHS, Chromecast) I get it through the stereo with zero latency from the TV.

Chromecast is the bomb! Anything I can pull up on my phone, tablet, laptop or desktop can get sent to the TV over my WiFi.

Big thumbs up for Cadillac Records, Grateful Dawg, Hell Freezes over.

Also, Martin Scorsese Presents: The Blues. A seven DVD set. Don't know if it's streaming anywhere.

The Sam Bush documentary was awesome, and I enjoyed the Avett Brothers’ “Make it Last.” While the Punch Brothers are probably my favorite band, “How to Grow a Band” didn’t do it for me; probably didn’t help that I watched it the night after the Bush doc...

+1 Sam Bush doc was awesome, I bought it as soon as it came out. I enjoyed How To Grow A Band, had seen it years earlier, it’s probably not for grassers though. BTW Echo In The Canyon didn’t do much for me.

The Aretha doc (likely one of many) "Amazing Grace" is a great piece of history.
"Miles - Birth of the Cool" is really inspiring as well.
