    Default ABC Converter?

Does anyone know what happened to the ABC converter that used to be at mandolintab.net? Am now getting an "account suspended" message. Was my favorite because it allowed saving to pdf.

If anyone has a favorite replacement, would like to hear about it. Downloaded one app, but it doesn't seem to allow conversion to another form.

If this has been discussed before, or shouldn't be talked about, please let me know.

    Thanks.

I use Easy ABC. Simple and it works and you can compose in ABC and save as pdf, print, etc.

    For simple online conversion:

    SPUDS Converter

I also used to use mandolintab.net. When mandolintab was suspended I purchased a copy of TablEdit. I am still learning how to use it, but I did manage to convert some abc tunes to standard notation with tabs, and then save them to a pdf files.

I have been using ABCExplorer for years. It's freeware designed by a French guy. Designed for Windows XP, it runs fine on my Windows 10 computer. Edit, play, transpose, print PDFs, JPGS, and other image formats, convert to MIDI, it does about all you could want. You can print individual tunes or massive tune collections. I use it to collect tunes into tune books, including those for local slow jams, contra pick-up bands, MBOTMA festivals, albums I like, ginormous collections of ganglats and hambos because I had never heard of those before, you name it. Plus, there are huge collections of traditional music from across the planet in ABC format, just waiting for you to download and play. If you don't read notation, just have the program play it for you, whatever tempo you want, any key you want, with or without repeats. It's a very, very powerful and flexible program costing exactly $0. I'm sure whatever follows Windows 10 will kill it dead, then I'll set up VirtualBox to run XP or Windows 7 just to keep ABCExplorer going.

I have used TablEdit for long time. It is a very capable program, although I've found the updates to the program over the last few years have made it more quirky and some functions don't work for me at all in Wiindows 10. Also the help response has gotten very poor IMHO. I feel bad about that because I really depend on it for a lot of stuff.

I wish I could find a program that does everything it does, but it is a more solid product.

I've been using the ABC Import plugin in the open source MuseScore application (https://musescore.org/en). After importing, you can export as a PDF (along with several other formats), use the built-in playback capabilities, or save/edit as a MuseScore file. BTW, the plugin is not active by default. The first time, you have to select Plugins / Plugin Manager and activate "abc_import". That adds an "ABC Import" menu item under Plugins, where you can either paste in the ABC notation or open the ABC file. MuseScore is a very full-featured application, but it could be used just as an intermediary to replace the mandolintab.net functionality.

Well, have been running into a ton of issues with most of the programs. Musescore 3 plug in doesn't work. Have figured out a cumbersome workaround (using the source Musescore uses to convert). ABCExplorer refuses to convert any of the abc files to notes. It says everything is incorrect file format. And EasyABC won't export to pdf. It claims it will, but there is no file being generated.

Frustrating. At this point am ready to give up. After 2 plus hours of this realizing it's not worth the effort.
