Thread: Need help with identification

    Default Need help with identification

Here's my new mandolin...a real beauty. The previous owner thought it was a Supertone, but I don't think the label remnants agree. Let's see if anyone can find a label to match with the remnants left in mine from a previous crack repair. Thanks!Click image for larger version.

It looks like a mid to late 1920s Supertone label remnant. I think I can see an S on blue- possibly a G. This is the mandolin I think- top left or on the right- they may have detail differences as the adornments were changed all the time.

I have borrowed the Supertone labels from Jake Wildwood's site.

Awesome! Thanks Nick. I've never seen that #2 label, I think it's a perfect match.

The second label is earlier than the one above it. I reckon it dates from about 1925 to 1929 or 1930 when that other one was introduced. The first Supertone label is white- no blue and quite simple. You can see it here- he says 1927 but I think it had been replaced by then which is why I reckon 1925 but it is in the 1930s with the Harmony date stamp that you can be exact about which label was used in what year. By the early 1930s the Supertone labels changed regularly- but it was their size and shape- not the style that was updated- and then replaced by Silvertone. https://rdelutherie.com/rdelutherie/...rmod02con.html
