    Default Gibson A-5

What year did Gibson start production on the two point double cutaway A-5?

According to Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars, they were introduced in 1970 and were available through 1979.

I think Jethro used one much earlier than that. I was thinking 50’s or 60’s. While we are at it what year did the solidbody two point electric come out? Which was first?

I mis-read the guide. There are two entries for the A-5. The 2 pointer came out in 1957, was continued through the 1960's, was changed over to the "lump scroll" body in 1970, and was discontinued in 1979.

The two point solidbody electric came out in 1954, and was discontinued in 1971.

Thank you for the info. Actually ‘57/‘58 was what I was hoping for to support an idea I had. Don’t have time to post about it now here. Maybe later and probably I’ll bring it up in a Gibson Facebook group as well. Much appreciated.
