    I think its Johnny Gimble playing the mandolin solo.

    Very cool, this is obviously where Dave learned the melody, and he also has Johnny's mandolin solo transcribed in his Masters of the Mandolin book. Thanks for sharing.

    Keeping in mind that Johnny tuned in mandola tuning, he had to play in position to reach the notes you are playing on the E string.
