Stop the video at 1:12 and then talk about quality workmanship. I'm sure they have overlooked this one, but I'm no longer confident about all of them being perfect every time.
Still I like the whole concept and the product. (I'm from Michigan and love the fact that the mandolins are made there.) Not sure why they chose that name. Minneapolis changed the name (Lake Calhoun) to show respect for Native Americans. Oh, well....

Yea, I was wondering what type of neck joint they use. In another shot it looks almost like an electric bolt on type joint. Also wondering why the mandolin looks like it was given a green finish?

Northfield is located in Marshall, MI, which is in Calhoun county. (Had to look that one up again). (Pre-edit: Was going to say something more, but am not going to get political.)

    Origin of the name Calhoun.

The name and the lake name change had nothing to do with Calhoun being a native American word.

At least now I've learned that the mandolin is named after the county in Michigan where they are made.

And my other observation was the seemingly poor glue joint. Let's get back to talking about mandolins. O.K.?

Hello, folks. Did those videos sound good to you? If Sharon Gilchrist and Emory Lester (on YouTube) can't make them sound good, $800? Am I wrong? Please correct me.

I watched the Emory Lester Video and thought it sounded a bit bright but then watched this and thought it sounded totally different (and better)...

For all our friends out there:

It’s not a gap in the neck joint. It’s the walnut block we use showing after shaping and sanding. Sorry for the troubling illusion there Doug. 100 mandos and counting .. many at schools being worked hard, not a problem to report.

It’s a modified mortise and tenon joint designed for this mandolin and the heel shape we’ve decided on for access to the upper fingerboard. No bolts or pins.

It’s a garnet shellac varnish finish. Garnet has an amber tint. No green.. at all... must be your monitor.

Sound: Emory’s playing in our big shop with 15’ ceilings. Thinner pick. Nate is playing in our bench room, recorded with a KM-84, heavy pick. No idea what Sharon’s demo is recorded with but dang we’re very thankful to her and Peghead Nation for the help and encouragement.

    Back. To. Work.
