Default GIROUARD F4 Delivered Today !!!

The most beautiful mandolin I have ever seen was delivered today ! Port Orford top and beautiful flame maple back ! Workmanship second to none ! Sound really projects crystal clear notes across the strings. Very evenly balanced. If you like the oval sound than a Girouard is the one for you ! Girouard's are great people to deal with !

As the proud owner of a Girouard mandolin (F-5 # 83) I can attest to what great folks Max and Lauri are. That said, I am extremely envious of of you for having that beautiful F-4!

Very nice! I always seem to ask the same questions. Pardon my repetitiveness, but it looks like this is a hybrid F-4 with the longer neck access, joined at fret 12 and, I am guessing, x-braced? Also, what made you go for the Port Orford Cedar top. I have never played a mandolin with a POC top. How does it differ from other top woods?

Longer neck ! I did have an Old Wave short neck but to my ears I prefer the long neck . You know , I don't know about the bracing ! I guess I should but I don't know ! Maybe Max will chime in ! Jill McAuley had an A oval built by Max Girouard using a piece of beautiful PO cedar and she was blown away by the projection and clearness of the notes so I thought I would take a chance and I am more than satisfied ! Type in PO cedar for a soundboard and you can read all about the tonal qualities.

Actually, I do recall Jill’s report now that you mention it. I am always interested in woods off the beaten path. Wonderful. One of these days I would love to try out a Girouard. They have always been on my list.

I have seen. held and played most top end mandolins at Gruhn's in Nashville and I absolutely believe Max's workmanship is second to none ! Period ! Sound is so subjective but to my old ears the Girouard oval sound is exactly what I was wanting ! I am so grateful that Jill recommended the PO soundboard ! It is amazing but perhaps it is just Max Girouard's skill ! Now, if I'm playing a lot of bluegrass chop I do prefer F holes instead of oval holes but I didn't commission this oval for that in particular. I just like the looks of a F style mandolin but I prefer the sound of a Girouard oval !

The colour green comes to mind. Green with envy. What an absolutely beautiful looking mandolin and the fact that you love the sound is even better.
    Cheers.

The Heiden is here to stay. But adding a Girouard to the stable might be an option one day. I’ve never seen one in person but his work looks beautiful in the pics. And Jill’s sounds really good.

As much as I like my Girouard, The one Heiden I played still haunts me to this day. Played it against a Gil and a Montelone and it absolutely ruled the day.

Ears are different aren't they ? I owned a Heiden but that "particular one" did not compare in workmanship or sound to my Girouard !
