Bouzouki with extremely high action
I have an old APC bouzouki from Portugal. Unfortunately the action is extremely high. It's just about playable if I'm only doing chords in the first position but anything higher than that is impossible due to the height of the strings and the intonation. I took it to the shop and they said there's nothing they can do.
To remedy this I was thinking that if I tuned it down a couple of steps and placed up the neck it might be easier to play. My question is would heavier strings make this solution work better to add tension? Or would lighter strings be better to make it easier to fret? Cheers.

Re: Bouzouki with extremely high action
I have tuned down a whole step, used lighter strings and capoed up 2frets and this effectively lowered the action and didn’t really mess with the intonation.

Re: Bouzouki with extremely high action
Did the repair person say why they couldn't do anything? If it's a neck angle problem, I would not use heavier strings.

Re: Bouzouki with extremely high action
We would need a bit more info to try to determine what the issue is.
Is there a truss rod in the neck.
Is the neck pulling from the body.
Can the bridge be lowered to bring the action down.
It would be good to know why the repairman said they could not do anything.
