Wot no catchphrase?
Set your instrument to be out of tune and play. Hmm... people will walk away for sure.

Well, lately, I've found that faking a crunchy hard cough clears those too close right out of the area.
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.
For all the pipe jokes the first part of Pat Sky's monologue is classic.

The last jam I attended had one of the better Uilleann pipers sitting next to me. Do really enjoy the pipes. And he plays much more than just Irish. (It was a Scandinavian music jam at which he is quite adept.) The only real problem with them is small rooms with lots of glass. Then it can get a bit piercing. Depending on the player and conditions.

I just hope & pray were all still here when this is over.
Reasoning statistically, we probably won't all be here; I do hope that the drastic measures that we are taking (I hope we are!) will limit the damage to as few people as possible. We're up to 11 confirmed COVID-19 cases in my county, and the number goes up every day.
My performance calendar has been wiped clean for the next month; the last possible gig, a St. Pat's party my band has played for 13 years or so, canceled last night. On the one hand, it's great that people and institutions are taking this so seriously. On the other, I feel for those who are now isolated, voluntarily or involuntarily, and who miss the friends they usually jam with, the clubs where they have regular gigs, the little sing-arounds and get-togethers, band practices and seniors' groups, instrumental classes and private lessons -- all the things musicians are used to.
Temporary social distancing is a necessity, but in the Bowling Alone era, God help us if it becomes a permanent fixture.

I had my gig last Sat night at a bar. About 70 people max vs what should have been about twice that, but still fine. People were obviously staying home. Mostly, people in their 20's and 30's, a few 40+ and no seniors, except for me. Now, the incubation period to see if I caught anything........so far, so good. Hopefully, there is a regional advantage to being in one of the few states with no reported cases, as of last Sat, now, of course, there are a handful.......and counting.
Good luck to everyone concerning this.
People have always kept their distance from me, so this whole aspect has been a big boost to my self asteem. Now people treat everyone that way.

I’m ready for this to come to its end, I have not really changed my routine very much, I am comfortable in my house, I have things to do, I don’t need to have an “entourage” as so many people seem to desire. My street is torn up traffic is very quiet, I can read, paint the rest of my kitchen remodel project then I can hang new track lighting. Cleaning out the mini fridge in the picking salon is on the list as well.
Being comfortable in your own home is a great blessing.
Keep safe out there folks!

When all of this is over I’m hoping the people who used to love to socialise at a gig wont have changed to become like us, practicing-alone musicians !

The term ‘Social distance’ isn’t actually what we are looking for in this context, it’s more physical distance that’s important.
Here’s a bit of info, more because you may have noticed that certain singers (and mandolinists) are socially very close to their spectators but not necessarily physically close.
How to make contact with the listener.

The Mandolin Cafe owner and moderators have always practiced social distancing, well at least they keep their distance from me. I don't blame them, I would too.
