Especially since my guitar player in a duo was a no show and I subjected the crowd to 2 hours of solo mando work.

We can only change the opening post title. All that fall after that we'd have to go in and edit each individual which leaves a time stamp with the administrator's user name and makes us look like we're meddling with posts, which, trust, me, we don't have time for

So THAT'S the sound that I hear at all of my gigs!
Ouch. I wonder what would be the Mando o'Shame? I am thinking of maybe an Antonio Tsai that has been stored out in the garage for a few years - twisted neck, half the inlay gone. Superglue the offender's hands in place and let the parade begin.

In modern times it is known as a banjo
Really, the mandolin is a darned convenient instrument in all respects. If you want self-immolation or an instrument worthy of penance, that would be clarinet (also called the "torture stick"), bassoon, or wire harp. (The literature reports that wire harper's fingernails were cut off to punish Irish bards).
For me, it would be mandatory attendance at school band performances.
,,,,and yet you did.

The older I get, the less tolerant I am of political correctness, incompetence and stupidity.
I did. I started getting into early stuff.. primal as it is there's not much money in it.
- Those automatic tuners Gibson was putting on the back of its headstocks for a while there. (Although they were a windfall for all the luthiers who got to remove them and fill in the holes.)
- The look o' real wood. (Think TVs, stereos, and Country Squires.)
- DOS. (But I'd love to revive Babba Ram Das.)
