I stand corrected. I often use rottenstone on gun stocks, but it worked very good on this mandolin.

I, too, am a fan of Martin Mandolins. I have an A. A couple of times I’ve gone to a new jam expecting a Bluegrass vibe & it turned out to be a more folkie-singer-song writer thing. Instead of a Gibson, I’d wish I had brought my little Martin. It would have been a good fit. I,also, have a Martin A Mandola, a ‘29(?). It is a superb Mandola. There was a Martin Guitar event in my area a couple of years ago & CEO Chris Martin was on hand. I brought the ‘Dola to show him. He smiled big & said, “ that’s something you don’t see too many of”. I got a photo of he & I with the ‘Dola. Very fun.

A Splendid Time is Guaranteed for All
Great story, glad you are the new keeper of something which should be able to be handed down for another generation!
I think you are doing a great job with the cleaning.
Play and enjoy it! What a wonderful gift!
